Indianapolis developer Tim Shrout wants to open a business park in Shelbyville to attract suppliers to the new Honda Manufacturing of Indiana assembly plant in Greensburg.

Shrout’s company, Cedar Run Investments LLC, is calling the 100-acre tract Pleasant View Commerce Park, according to The Shelbyville News.

The location is 32 miles from the Honda plant. Honda discourages suppliers from locating within 30 miles of the plant, possibly to avoid competing for workers.

Buildings in the park could be as large as 500,000 square feet, but won’t be built on a speculative basis.

Honda plans to assemble its Civic subcompact in the $550 million plant when it opens this fall. The plant will employ about 2,000 workers.

Both Shelbyville and Greensburg are located along Interstate 74 between Indianapolis and Cincinnati.

On Monday, the Shelbyville Redevelopment Commission approved a 1,000-acre tax-increment-financing district near the soon-to-open Indiana Downs racino. The district, at the interstate’s Fairland exit, will plow tax proceeds into infrastructure that in turn is expected to spark more businesses to expand.
