Subscribe NowThe Indianapolis Airport Authority this morning stopped short of bringing the name of World War I flying ace Weir Cook back to Indianapolis International Airport, but compromised with supporters by tagging a major street and the new midfield terminal with the name.
The road leading into the airport will be called Col. H. Weir Cook Memorial Drive. The $1.1 billion terminal, which is scheduled to open Oct. 28, will be called H. Weir Cook Terminal.
“I’m sure it doesn’t satisfy everybody,” authority chief Randall Tobias said.
Tobias added that the authority also didn’t want to deplete the name recognition that Indianapolis International Airport has built since Cook’s name was removed in 1976.
Supporters of restoring the name felt it would honor military veterans.
