If Bears pick IN, then our republican leaders get to celebrate raising taxes on Indiana residents to benefit an out-of-state team. People want to believe building a stadium is beneficial, but the economic analysis done by impartial experts shows that the benefits of these deals – especially for a stadium near nothing – don’t make sense.

Taxes wont be raised on the entire state. Just Lake and Porter counties. Senate Enrolled Act No.27 deliberately isolates these two counties ONLY. 1% food&beverage tax. Hotel innkeeper’s will double from 5% to 10% and a stadium admission tax of 12% admission tax on ticket sales. Most of these taxes would be shared with Lake and Porter county Indiana with residents of Illinois coming over to Indiana. The benefits of the stadium does create economic development, construction and permanent hospitality jobs ect. At this point what does the area have to lose when considering there’s nothing else major being developed there? The area would surely be granted a Super Bowl at some point if it’s built. So that’s not totally accurate that there’s no benefits in these sorts of deals. In a community Like Hammond and Gary, I can almost guarantee you the folks in the area are excited for an opportunity to get one of the many jobs that’s coming to this struggling part of the state!
