Bob Bryant, president and CEO of the 500 Festival for the past 12 years, plans to retire on Jan. 9, 2026, the organization announced Tuesday.
A veteran sports marketing executive, Bryant oversaw “significant growth” of the nonprofit after being hired in 2013 as the fourth president and CEO in the 500 Festival’s history.
The 500 Festival, founded in 1957, produces and promotes dozens of events and programs in celebration of the Indianapolis 500, including the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and the 500 Festival Parade.
“The 500 Festival has seen significant growth, increased impact, and fostered a culture of inclusion and innovation,” the organization said in announcing the leadership transition. “The 500 Festival has expanded its year-round programming, empowered youth through education and leadership, promoted health and fitness initiatives for all, and strengthened its ties to the community.”
A search committee made up of directors from the 500 Festival and 500 Festival Foundation boards will lead the process of choosing the organization’s next leader. The committee has hired global sports, entertainment and nonprofit recruitment firm Prodigy Search to manage the process.
The 500 Festival said Bryant will work with the board and staff during the transition “to ensure a smooth handoff.”
Before joining the 500 Festival, Bryant served as tournament director at the BB&T Atlanta Open, an ATP World Tour men’s professional tennis event. He also operated his own firm, Team Works Marketing Inc. He also had stints at Turner Broadcasting and the Cartoon Network.
The 500 Festival is preparing for milestone anniversaries in 2026—the 50th running of the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and the 70th edition of the 500 Festival Parade.
Bryant was featured on on the “Business & Beyond with Gerry Dick” podcast in May leading up to the Indianapolis 500.
