Can’t wait for the inevitable excuses in the future on why we don’t have enough funding to repair the roads and fill in potholes…”well we rescinded the gas tax back in April 2026…”
Quick math – they have been collecting more taxes for the last month of because of higher gas prices. They “suspend” the 7% for 30 days to look like heroes. Net effect to the revenue to the Sate = zero.
The net effect is not zero. The tax is always against a fluctuating gas price. It would only be zero, if the tax *stayed and placed* and the price of gas dropped below its original baseline by the exact amount it was elevated for the same duration
When the tax is on a higher gas price, there is more revenue taken in to fund roads, and this opportunity is lost by suspending the tax.
Indiana has never properly funded its roads. Drive in a state that actually cares about its roads and you will see the night and day difference.
Christopher B, so they brought in $X more dollars, so they cut $X dollars. X-X=0 That sounds like it’s going to be a net effect close to zero…
Siphoning off road funding to shave off a measly 17 cents because if an ill-conceived war.
This coming from the Governor who called this costly and disastrous war “decisive leadership” from the man who promised a new “golden age.”
Diesel as well I hope?
My dollars are non-political. I will always appreciate help in a temporary bump in costs.
Not convinced gas stations won’t just take the extra profit for 30 days.
INDIANA SALES TAX money does NOT go to the oil companies, It goes to the STATE!!!! The oil companies aren’t going to lose ANYTHING!!!!
Not sure what you are yelling about, Matt. I’m arguing that instead of lowering their prices, companies are more likely to keep them static and take the extra 17 cents of profit for the next 30 days.
