  1. I read this article talking about all the budget cuts including to local government, schools, kindergarten and such, yet my mind goes to these politicians buying helipads and $90,000 luxury vehicles. If I had not observed Beckwith and how he talked at several dozen library board meetings, I’d wonder if his 3/5ths comment was simply a distraction (“squirrel”) from the spending/program cuts and the miss on doing a relevant property tax cut. Having watched the so called pastor talk about taking an eye for an eye and seeing him say things such as that our library was promoting prostitution, I know it wasn’t a squirrel comment, but simply par for the course. These are strange times.

  2. So sad. It especially hurts that during these challenging times, this is the type of leadership that we field in Indiana. I am starting to lose pride in our great State like I never thought possible. Christian Nationalism is a threat to democracy. I say this as a proud Christian who sees the danger in using faith as a tool to gain power instead of service and love.

  3. Mitch Daniels at least had some ideas – some good, some awful. Braun is just a bunch of empty aphorisms covering up that he’s rich, out of touch, and just doesn’t want to pay taxes any longer.

“you’ve got plenty of money. You’ve just got to learn how to spend it better.”

    Really useful leadership there.

    1. The governor apparently thinks of government as a manufacturing or distribution business, instead of a service business. The only way you improve a service business is to invest in people…staff. And you might have to pay them more than minimum wage.

Or you might have to invest in better automation so that folks can do more in less time because their computer systems make their jobs easier.

Either way…you might just have to spend some money to get better results.

  4. Notice how he really runs in circles trying to avoid calling out what he said and avoid condemning what he said. Not, “what he said was wrong and inexcusable.” Braun said, “He shouldn’t have said that out loud.”

Braun, in his first 100 days, has…
    – Screwed over homeowners to give himself and other big business owners a massive tax break
    – Screwed over school children
    – Screwed over parents
    – Screwed over local municipalities and counties
    – Snuck in really slimy language into unrelated bills that gives him sole authority over our flagship university
    – Built himself a helipad and is being flown back and forth because he’s too good for the Governor’s Mansion
    – Refused to back down from his racist statements on Loving v. Virginia
    – Failed to bring more transparency to IEDC
    – Completely screwed up the State budget and had to go redo it behind closed doors without public comment

    This guy SUCKS.

  5. Braun also said that interracial marriage should be left to the states to decide, so I don’t know that I’d give him any praise for chiding Beckwith.
