Maybe put the sculpture in the Heart of Broad Ripple.. at the soon to close Firehouse.
With police cams in the eyes and a loudspeaker so they could call out rowdy behavior. LOL
I have zero energy around this “artwork” but would be interested in knowing what percentage of zoning appeals BR has ever denied
Greg, love the idea of police cams and a loudspeaker. The statue would serve a double purpose.
why is modern sculpture so unattractive? Is there a city ordinance somewhere that requires sculpture to be unattractive. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder…but really? What does this say about Broad Ripple or Indianapolis or Indiana? How does this bring any of those to life? Bring on a duck statue…
It brings character to the area. I see nothing wrong with it. How much art work do you expect on a street corner.
I would say it definitely serves its purpose.
Meanwhile, the once-beautiful tile sculpture just north of this, at College Avenue just south of White River, is disintegrating due to lack of upkeep.
“Another flaw in the human character is that everybody wants to build and nobody wants to do maintenance.”
― Kurt Vonnegut, Hocus Pocus
You’ve described indianapolis, and ironically Vonnegut was from Indianapolis.
Upkeep will be SOP BR like all the new medians that had new grass and now all weeds
BR seems to be a rudderless ship I know as I run thru it every day Only change are new CBD and Vape stores
sculpture or no BR needs a firm business plan Id love to open retail there but…..
FIRST get rid of paid parking
Great to see Gavin-Divergence moving forward! Broad Ripple has long needed fresh public art, and this project will spark more private investment and new energy.
It’s too late now, but this piece could have been a visual landmark on Mass Ave., and even on Virginia Ave.
Visual discord advances. Good grief.
This group is indicative of the fact most people don’t like this type of “Modern Art.” We prefer more classically styled works, so why do we keep getting what we do not like?
It’s possible that “this group” of IBJ commenters is not representative of the population as a whole. Minority rule only happens in government, not in the selection of public art. On the other hand, perhaps the selection of public art may be largely reflective of the views of the people paying for it, not the will of the population as a whole. That sounds like our bought-and-paid-for government.
