So room and board and tuition at Butler is now nearing or above $70k? Yikes
Cost of attendance figures for the 2025-2026 school year, taken from each school’s site for 529 plans (rounded to nearest thousand):
Butler: $67,000
IU: $31,000
Purdue: $26,000
– We recently put our kids through both IU & Purdue- Great experiences and strong full-time employment in their chosen career fields. How does one justify more than 2X for a Butler degree?
Apples and oranges comparing Butler to IU or Purdue. Butler offers a whole different educational and cultural experience with some very strong and specific programs; among them pharmacology/health, business, education, performing arts, communications, biology and related sciences…etc.. Silly to compare Butler to IU or Purdue, public-funded schools with more of a meat-grinder mentality — each with 50,000 students instead of 6,000 or so at Butler. Good for IU and Purdue and their grads (I’m one,) but let’s face it, they’re middle of the pack compared to other large public universities, and both are starting to lag behind lately — even compared to other B10 schools. Butler, is a standout in its class — if you can pay for it, and nab a few scholarships along the way — all the better.
Silly to compare Butler to IU/Purdue? That’s a leap of a statement. Both IU & Pudue (now) have way better business schools, better education schools, IU far better performing arts (Jacobs), bio/chem programs, engineering, etc. About the only thing Butler is ‘wins’ with is if someone wants a small school environment. Butler accepted 86% of its applicants in 2025- hardly the number any ‘standout’ school possesses.
