Caitlin Clark is Nike’s newest signature athlete, expanding the athletic wear company’s partnership with the WNBA star.
Nike on Monday revealed a new logo of interlocking Cs to represent the Indiana Fever standout. Clark’s first signature shoe and apparel collection will debut next year. Her logo collection will launch on Oct. 1, with a T-shirt in the Fever’s colors—yellow and navy blue—coming out on Sept. 1.
“Nike’s signature roster features all-time greats, and I am incredibly proud to join some of the best athletes in the world,” Clark said in a statement. “I’m excited to share a first look at what we’ve started to create together.”
Nike said Clark took a hands-on approach to designing the logo.
“Two interwoven C’s reflect Caitlin’s magnetic connection with fans around the globe who are drawn to her unwavering confidence, steadfast commitment and remarkable shooting ability,” Nike said. “Tucked between the larger letters is a smaller, hidden C that represents how Caitlin’s game was built from the inside out—a product of her passion for the sport, relentless drive and constant pursuit of perfection.”
Clark has missed 24 games during an injury-plagued second season, including the last 15 with a right groin strain. She has not played or practiced since July 15 and has already been ruled out of a key home game Tuesday against the Seattle Storm.
She did, however, participate in Indiana’s pregame shootaround Sunday at Minnesota. Last season’s WNBA Rookie of the Year is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 13 games.
Clark has had a huge impact in women’s basketball ratings and attendance over the last few years, dating from her time setting the NCAA all-time scoring record at Iowa.
In June, Nike released a pair of Kobe Bryant’s signature sneakers in the colors of the Fever. The shoes sold out nearly as soon as they were offered.
Clark becomes the third WNBA player to get a signature deal with Nike, following A’ja Wilson and Sabrina Ionescu. Wilson’s shoe and apparel are coming out this year.
Remains sidelined
Caitlin Clark has been ruled out of Tuesday’s key late-season matchup between the Indiana Fever and Seattle Storm in Indianapolis. The announcement came when Indiana updated its injury report Monday.
Clark has not played or practiced since injuring her right groin July 15. She did, however, participate in Indiana’s pregame shootaround Sunday at Minnesota. The Fever are coming off two straight losses to the league-leading Lynx.
Last season’s WNBA Rookie of the Year is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 13 games this season. But she’s missed 24 games including the last 15 with her third muscle injury of the season.
Coach Stephanie White has said there is no timetable for Clark’s return. White did say, though, she hopes Clark returns before the end of the regular season.
Indiana has seven games remaining and enters Tuesday’s game tied with the expansion Golden State Valkyries for the final two playoff spots—one game ahead of the Los Angeles Sparks, who the Fever visit Friday, and a half-game behind Seattle for the No. 6 seed.
Tuesday’s game is a near-sellout, but hundreds of tickets are available on the resale market, with prices starting below $12 each.
