Why are Marion County Republicans voting against the proposal to raise the wheel tax that was foisted on Indianapolis by Republicans at the Statehouse?
Because a tax increase is the only credible way to meet the threshold set by Republicans, which goes up every year.
A flat tax is needed, however $100 per vehicle is too much.
Yes,. It was estimated to raise $72 million dollars. So, is $66 and $166 OK?
Indy still needs a new tax stream of $50 million, or we leave another $50 million on the table. The total lack of leadership from Hogsett seems like par for the course. I sure hope voters remember the 14 people that voted against this as they bounce over bad roads in the way to the polls.
Such a lovely, helpful, productive dynamic, the state supermajority “owning the libs” of our state’s biggest city. Not stupidly counterproductive, cutting-off-your-nose-to-spite-your-face at all.

Unforced error, bad mistake. Maybe some minds can be changed by Monday, we need better streets in Indianapolis.
Councilor Michael-Paul Hart has a plan to meet the state’s road funding requirements without raising taxes. Use existing city revenues, projected revenue growth, and future budget planning to fully fund Marion County’s roads — without asking taxpayers for another dollar.
Marion County taxpayers shouldn’t have to shoulder another tax because city Democrats won’t prioritize creative solutions. Councilor Hart’s plan challenges city government to find savings and use existing revenues.
Cool. There’s about a million other needs that also need that revenue growth.
The wheel tax hasn’t been raised since 1990. Drivers in Marion County have largely been getting a discount pass. Raise it.
