The program and funds were meant to level the playing field. The wealthy, who can afford higher electricity rates, can also afford adding solar and battery systems to decrease consumption. This is just another example of this admin’s disdain for the lower class of consumers.
And another example of this administration willfully ceding the entirety of the renewable energy sector, a sector that’s going to grow exponentially in the very near term, to China
Let solar energy stand on its own.
Do all other forms of energy stand on their own? Probably not. For example, the Trump DOE just halted retirement of a coal plant in Michigan even though that State and the reliability coordinator already determined that the plant could be replaced with other generation. Do you want to cede the solar industry to China? That’s what is happening. China is building energy of the future while this admin is trying to save 50-60 year old technology with limited job potential.
Mike is exactly right. It isn’t about letting the industry speaking for itself. It’s about using the full force of the government to win the fight for the future of energy. Imagine if we had this “stand on your own” attitude about the space race or with the nuclear bomb. We would have lost our place as the dominant player on the global stage. I guess it was going to happen eventually.
