I think the daughters are doing a fine job with everything else so far – sell the land/ buildings, etc. They all have their own residence(s) and who needs 8 other properties? On the collection, though, I would have thought they’d donate them to various places that would keep them on display to the public. A lot of people don’t like when a precious item is bought at auction and never seen again. They don’t need the money.
The daughters are dumping everything they can because of the memories of a drug addict father…Kids are more traumatized by addict parents than you think…

Sad to see the collection broken up, although I respect his daughters’ decision to do what’s best for the family. It would have made a fine addition to the Indiana State Museum, and would have attracted considerable attention to the museum.
Doesn’t sound like this is what he envisioned would happen with the collection but he obviously made no protections for it in his will.

A tough decision by the daughters. Keeping the collection in the family certainly makes no sense, with insurance costs and paying someone for managing and caring for the collection, etc. But still disappointing the “greatest guitar collection on the planet”, not to mention the other priceless items in the mix.
Unfortunately the charities that will receive a portion of the sales will spend it all, with no trace of what once was.
It is always sad to see a collection like this broken up. If the money from selling this is going to charity why not just give it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland? I can’t think of a more appropriate place for it to go.

There are substantial estate tax issues and I suspect this is why this incredible collection as well as the properties are being sold.
