The Gary Airport has always been the stuff of pipe dreams as a third Chicago airport, but those dreams never took off (intentional pun,) grounded in reality considering location, general surroundings, and the other two Chicago aiports. Would be nice to see this part of Indiana take flight (pun again!) but in the still doubtful event the Bears move to Hammond I still don’t see much happening at that airport outside of few more private flights. Gary-Hammond-East Chicago need serious state commitment and a major and determined environmental clean-up. I really don’t think the Statehouse much cares about it, other than this drawn out Bears stadium passion play.
How delusional are they about this stadium deal? Aside from a handful of private jets and helicopters, the stadium will have virtually no impact on air traffic at Gary Airport. South Shore is going to be the supporting infrastructure for the stadium.
