Obviously there hasn’t been a viable stadium proposal put forward yet. The Simon stadium proposal is still being priced out, a process that just got to the pricing stage within the last month. All previous soccer stadium proposals were from Erasl, who is broke.
well, that’s unkind…he’s not broke, but he likely was never going to get a new soccer stadium here.
Maybe we could focus on crime, homelessness, & quality of work life in the downtown area before wasting time on this pipe dream…
Sadly, unless you have the solution to those problems and aren’t sharing, your suggestion is even a bigger pipe dream. At least a stadium would have a positive impact on jobs and economic development in a relatively underused part of the city. Or perhaps you believe since we can’t solve those problems, lets do nothing at all.

Yes, I’d love to see the state make a serious effort at funding the mental health facilities that would be required to make a dent in the homelessness issue.
And I’m sure as soon as they figure out a way to do it while continuing to cut taxes, they’ll do it.

I’ve just figured that the stadium would be funded thru the never ending food and beverage tax, and additional hotel and rental car taxes. But, since this is some big freaking secret funding dance, who among us simple tax payers know what we’ll be saddled with to pay. Where’s the money coming from to pay for the planning being done by the favorite son Architect and the Construction Manager? I know they aren’t working for free on such pre-planning. And what brain trust has deduced the funding for the previous soccer stadium project wasn’t feasible? Big secrets there too. Why would this new soccer deal be any more feasible? Ah, cheapen (the ever favorite terminology, “Value Engineering) the stadium for now and then in 10 years plan a big remodel, like Gainbridge. And surely we’ll be seeing a massive upgrade to Lucas Football palace in a few years if not already being secretly planned. None of this funding discussion needs to be confidential at this point in time. We all know a soccer stadium is wanted, the word’s out on that. Due to the generosity of all restaurant-goers, why would the legislature not approve the continuation of the food and beverage tax to pay the freight? My guess with all the bells and whistles that a soccer team will want, all the associated site development, furnishings for suites, and improvements to the aged utility infrastructure, and more parking, and a big contingency for CIB to sneak in for more bells and whistles or to cover construction cost overruns, bring $500 million to the party. Will that be feasible for the Mayor, the legislature and to the lucky taxpayers? Quit sneaking around Mayor. Tell us what this project will cost and how it will be funded. And, oh yes, who will own the team and will they get the same sweet deal that the Colts enjoy at their playground? Time to inform the public.
With that ramble Patrick T, it’s impossible to tell if you favor a soccer stadium or not. Regardless, it’s apparent that you haven’t paid much attention to this entire saga because the Mayor has submitted a funding proposal using a framework established by the General Assembly, the same General Assembly that is now saying their own idea doesn’t work.
