Election Day is Nov. 3, so we’re just a bit more than three months away. This is the midterms, so there’s a lot at stake at the federal and state levels, in additional to many referendums for local school districts. On July 16, President Trump delivered a 26-minute prime-time address about election security, warning us that our elections are vulnerable to fraud and need immediate attention. Among his claims, Trump said China was able to acquire 220 million U.S. voter files in 2020 and wants to exploit that data. He also said a Department of Homeland Security investigation found that 278,000 noncitizens are registered to vote in federal elections.
Regular listeners of the IBJ Podcast know that we already had scheduled a return visit with Chetrice Romero, senior cybersecurity adviser for law firm Ice Miller, to talk specifically about election security, so the president’s address gave us even more grist for the mill. Romero has worked extensively with the state and federal government on election security and is currently consulting with state and county officials on November’s election. In this week’s edition of IBJ Podcast, she starts off by putting Trump’s comments in context and gauging the threat level of his claims. She then goes into great detail explaining the many steps that local and state officials are taking in Indiana to secure the election. And she weighs in on the notion of going back to an all-paper voting system.

He is, of course, lying. The fact that we are this many years into this nonsense and people still publish headlines like this one is mind-boggling. If he wins, it was fair. If he loses, it was rigged. How is this not obvious to everyone at this stage of the show?
What a load of nonsense. Irresponsible journalism.
Tens of millions of Americans join the voter roll or die between each election and we are supposed to be upset over an error rate of under 0.1% of the population? That couldn’t impact any election.
What an irresponsible title of this podcast / article. How have our journalistic institutions learned nothing over the last 9 years?
Lazy at best or unbelievably irresponsible journalism at worst – reiterate the “claims” of a career con man with more than 30,000 documented falsehoods in his first administration but neglect to cite the required fact checking of those claims that was available immediately after. Worse than bothsidsing even.
Ask anyone who works elections full-time. Every single step of the process is overseen by appointees of each political party. And here’s a news flash that most people miss: not one ounce of the voting process is online. Anywhere. It’s all paper.
Very stupid and a Waste of time . Elections have been free and fair. GOP is trying to make it impossible to vote. Most people don’t even possess a passport
Yeah, so impossible that each election has more voters than the last! Dems always cheat and always have! For them, its an art form! Used to take bags of cash to Lake County to buy votes! Now, they import millions of illegals, give them driver’s licenses then lie that they don’t vote. You people are sick, demented and/or stupid beyond belief!
John S….. bless your heart.
LMAO yeah, John. It’s kind of not surprising that a nation that has a growing citizen population has a growing number of voters each cycle. How does MAGA have this poor of critical thinking capabilities? Just incredible.
I see the usual hypocrites are posting as usual. Of course nobody had a problem when Nancy pelosi said the exact same thing in April. Now all of a sudden Nancy is saying the voting machines can be hacked.
https://share.google/DlHE2rSByxvCxUgYe
Nobody is clicking on a random internet link. Even if humor this thought for a moment… there is still a paper backup of all votes that are created by the machines!
Voter fraud isn’t a thing unless you don’t want certain people to vote. Period. End of story. The total incidence is less than .0004% nationwide. Illegal immigrants aren’t trying to vote, the very few incidents that exist were done out of ignorance, not intentional fraud.
The SAVE act is a covert federalization of elections act and a political pinball, they are praying you don’t actually read the bill so they can just say it is about IDs. It is still astounding how quickly so many went from “Dont Tread On Me” to “Comply or Die”.
Ryan I know you’re afraid but it’s okay. But let me help you out this is just from the first three paragraphs of the article on The Hill.
“House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) warned that Republicans could manipulate voting machines to “create a false count” in the upcoming midterm elections.
Pelosi told MS NOW’s Ali Vitali in an interview that aired Tuesday that the Democratic Party is working to secure this election through litigation, legislation and communication with voters.
“But in addition to that, we have to be on guard as to what they may try to do to the technology. They may try to creep into the technology and create a false count,” she said, referring to Republicans.’
Why is it bad when Republicans say the machines could be hacked and election stolen and everyone’s up in arms but when Nancy Pelosi says that everyone takes it as truth.
Let me help you, Rea. Nancy Pelosi is old and senile and should stop making public comments. Now, it’s your turn to condemn the old and senile guy in your party making similar, but louder and incredidbly more frequent claims.
Michael so glad you chimed in to make your usual excuses for the Democrats. Nancy has been put on a pedestal by that party. Funny that the voting machines can now be “manipulated” per Nancy by Republicans. I hope Dominion’s lawyers have been in contact with her.
Every accusation is an admission, Rea. I did not make excuses for Nancy or Democrats. I literally said that she should not have said it. I’ll double down, it was flat out wrong for her to say it. Yet you won’t admit the same about the constant whining of voter fraud threats from your own party because you aren’t in good faith and lack the ability to self-reflect due to your TDS. It says a lot about you.
Rea, Donald Trump has no credibility on election fraud. He claimed 2016 was fraudulent before the election. He won, convened a task force to look into it … and quietly disbanded it when they couldn’t find anything.
He lost every court case related to 2020 and had a mob show up at the Capitol to try to do what the courts wouldn’t do.
At what point will you hold him accountable for lying to you? Or will you just believe him that he can have a more than eight years in office because he says he can?
Michael what false equivalencies have I posted? If a republican questions an election result everyone is all up in arms saying that elections are secure but then when Nancy pelosi says they’re going to be rigged everyone takes it as the gospel. You’re the poster child for “rules for thee not for me”.
As for January 6th that’s pretty much right up there with the Summer of Love protest. Where were you at Michael during that period? And Trump never said anything to encourage what happened January 6th.
And here is Trump’s quote from January 6th…
“I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”.
As far as voter fraud. The governor of New Jersey just admitted 6600 non-citizens were registered to vote. And they say only 400 voted and that’s just as far as they know of. That’s in one state. And one boat can make the difference between the outcome of an election as we all see it playing out here in indiana.
Here in Indiana they had registered Democrats swapping over to the Republican primaries to try to influence the outcome of the election and choose the candidate they supported. If you call that accusations go ahead but that’s the truth if you can’t handle it that’s on you.
Democrats are masters at manipulating the votes and influencing the outcome of elections. In 2014 they had Democrats crossing over to vote in Republican primary runoff to get the candidate they thought they were most likely to beat. That was the runoff between Thad Cochran and Chris Mcdaniel.
So don’t try to portray the Democrats is all holy and innocent. Because they’re not. And I’m not saying the Republicans are either. I wish we had a true multi-party government system where we had parties that had to form a coalition together to get things accomplished instead of being stuck with two parties that are diametrically opposed to each other.
Rea, bless your heart.
By the way, political parties are welcome to run primary elections as they wish as soon as the parties foot the bill. Until then? Any registered voter should be able to vote as they choose because they’re paying for the election. We need open primaries, not closed primaries, in this state if you actually want to see less politicization.
I remember Republicans pissing and moaning about basic Federal oversight during the 2024 election, stating it was interfering with “States Rights.” Sounds like BS to me.
The comments here reflect either the willing ignorance or plain stupidity of much of the populace!!! I remember a long time ago (two weeks or so??) when dummycrats said no illegals voted!!!! At least 400 in New Jersey did and at least 6600 were registered!! FOLKS…THIS IS THE REASON DUMBSH*T BIDEN LET MILLIONS CROSS THE BORDER!! “Well, they have to work, don’t you know and they’ll need a driver
s license, right??Ohh and some states automatically register these folks as VOTERS!!!! You’re either incredibly naive, stupid or willfully blind!
+1, click on my link above and it’s okay Nancy P saying the midterms can be rigged and the voting machines hacked now.
+1
John, you’re projecting.
Democrats rigged two elections … and let Trump win? Do I have that right?
And the only rigged election was the one Trump oversaw in 2020? Do I have that right?
The people who go on and on about the swing states in 2024 and the election machines being rigged in Trump’s favor have slightly more credibility than you do, and that’s not a compliment.
Trump should have been thrown in jail, if not executed for treason, after the 2020 election. You can’t argue otherwise and be a serious person. Then again, the Trumpublican Party is a cult and/or crime syndicate, so they deserve everything they have coming.
+1 that.
Where were John S, Rea P, and Keith B on Jan 6, the most shameful day in this country’s modern history?
Rea loves to make false equivalencies to deflect from the fact that the sitting president is poised to encourage another Jan 6 when Republicans inevitably get overwhelmed by a blue tsunami in Nov, John S hasn’t been outside or consumed any media besides Newsmax for apparent years, and Keith is here like always to egg them both on.
None of their fabrications, deflections, or conspiracies change the fact that we have safe and secure elections, Donald Trump lost in 2020, non-citizens do not vote and if they try to, are caught, and the only stories of actual voter fraud are always republicans trying to help Donald Trump.
I’ve never heard a Democrat ask a sitting Governor to help him find just enough votes to win a state, either. Curious.
These people are so in the grips of their TDS that I fear they’re lost causes doomed to completion social isolation from their family and friends. It really is sad to see
Micheal N,
lol….Am I just egging you on when I give you a plus one????
I agree that January 6th was an absolute disgrace. Just as disgraceful as all the George Floyd and anti – Ice riots.
I agree also that Trump should have accepted the election results, whether he thought it was rigged or not.
I have no problem with the controls and security measures at the polling stations on Election Day as long as I.D. is required.
Ask yourself this, why does every major industrialized country in the world require voter I.D. and voting in person. Because they recognize it as a safeguard for secure elections.
I do have a problem with all the mail in balloting and ballot harvesting. People should vote in person on Election Day (s).
Unless you are physically disabled or in the military, you should absolutely vote in person.
Many states leaned into the mail balloting during Covid. Covid is over and voting rules should go back to pre-COVID rules.
Lastly, the only ones disassociating themselves from others are leftists TDS flunkies.
Keith, a reminder that Republicans are the ones blocking making election day a holiday so everyone can vote in person.
There isn’t election fraud to the extent you all claim, simply is not.
And another reminder – TDS is what you’re suffering from if you still manage to be supporting Trump at this point. You can’t make it make sense.
Joe B.
I’m not claiming there is a lot of election fraud. But even a little could change the outcome in many races.
I’ve said countless times that Trump should except the 2020 election results.
Tell me why every industrialized country in the world requires ID on Election Day but a state like California does not???
It’s unbelievable how the Dems treat their voters like helpless blind puppies not cable of taking any responsibility for themselves or doing anything for themselves.
There are many things that I dislike about Trump. Many!
But I also don’t base my friendships with people by their politics. I do know that many anti-Trumpers will drop friendships with anyone that have voted for Trump even if they only voted for him in 2020, but not 2024. Leftists claim that they can not be friends with people that vote against their interest. People on the right could take the same attitude but don’t.
Do we really need a federal holiday with all the early voting at the polls??? Again, Do we need all the mail in balloting with all the early voting at the polls???
People that really care about voting will find a way to the polling station. Especially with all the early voting.
Keith, now you’re starting to get why Republicans want to make it so hard to vote and why they refused to ban partisan gerrymandering, “even a little could change the outcome in many races.”
If you want to do everything like the rest of the world, how about universal healthcare and pensions?
Keep trying and flailing. I used to think Republicans were serious conservatives too. The first step is to accept that while both sides aren’t perfect, only one hasn’t even tried to do squat for you in 40+ years. Here’s a tip – trickle down economics was and remains a sham, it’s socialism for the rich only.
Joe B.
We have a dilemma. Both sides gerrymander.
Both parties are selling their souls to gain power.
Voter ID is one one of those 80/20 issues that the vast majority of the American people support. Should be a non issue.
Also, Too many R’s have sacrificed their independence or political conservative philosophy to kiss Trumps ring or worse. I can’t believe they are not pushing back against Trump.
Last but not least, the Dems treat their voters like helpless blind puppies. Any personal self responsibility is considered repression or oppression. Truly sad.
Remember the Georgia voting law?? All the leftists screaming Jim Crow 2.0 and racism. Amazingly, black voters voted in record numbers, actual numbers and percentage wise.
How did that happen with all the Jim Crow oppression????
Keith, this is pointless. Just accept that you support Republicans no matter what. There is no red line for you, because you will always find an excuse.
“Both sides gerrymander”. Sure. One side said we should ban the practice, and one side refused to do so. A note, that’s the same side that in one breath claim we shouldn’t gerrymander on race, then turned right around and just coincidentally broke up so many districts that were electing nonwhite folks in made your head spin. You probably believe it was an amazing coincidence, too.
You are being played by forces you do not understand, and by the time you figure it out, it will be too late for you. If you at all want any American progress since 1932 to stick around, you can’t vote for any Republican. It’s that simple.
Joe B.
I would say the same to you. No red line for you when it comes to the Dems.
Agreed, on the redistricting. It was unnecessary and gerrymandering at its worst.
Where I disagree with you is on the racial component.
The Dems were screaming racism and voter suppression.
No one was disenfranchised from voting. No one. Their vote still counts.
Like I said earlier, I don’t like the R’s. I just really dislike the Dems even more. They scream & shriek like spoiled entitled brats every time they don’t get their way.
I don’t see how in the world you can support the Dems. *They are racial to their very core.* There’s a reason why the Dems lost the white working class, white males in particular. Evidently you don’t hear what the members of your Dem Party are saying. I hear so many disturbing things that the legacy national news media don’t or refuse to report.
I think it’s FUNNY how the Dems are trying to figure out how to win back working class voters.
Their over analysis is so ridiculous and humorous. They don’t have a clue.
What’s the red line where they were supposed to lose me?
The time they extended healthcare to more people?
The time they tried to forgive student loans that are keeping people from buying houses or starting families?
The time they passed a bill to invest in American infrastructure?
Go on and tell me.
“I just really dislike the Dems even more. They scream & shriek like spoiled entitled brats every time they don’t get their way.”
Yes, because the adult way to do it is to try to overturn the result of the election, lose every single court case, but instead have a mob storm the Capitol and beat up the Capitol police, then issue pardons to everyone. What were those Democrats thinking?
Again, that wasn’t a red line for you. That says a lot, Keith.
“There’s a reason why the Dems lost the white working class, white males in particular.”
Go on and tell me why.
Because I think it’s because they’ve convinced them that it’s all a zero-sum game, and you’re not living the life you feel entitled to because of … well, anything in the world except the very monied folks behind the Republican Party who’ve spent decades trying to roll back everything since FDR because they want to keep their money.
Because every time Republicans take power, what’s the first thing they do? Big tax cut for the wealthy, with the claim that “it will trickle down to you”. Hasn’t worked since Reagan did it, still isn’t working. So now? Just keep throwing someone to blame out there. Blame the immigrants, blame the LGTBQ folks, blame “the Communists”, blame everyone but the people in charge!
But, please, go on and tell me. Because I think you’re falling for a bill of goods, and the only difference between us is I’ve figured it out.
“No one was disenfranchised from voting. No one. Their vote still counts.”
It’s adorable you actually think your vote counts in an era when parties use supercomputers to draw the lines and elected officials are choosing their voters, not vice versa.
Yet again, you go on about how bad gerrymandering is, but you refuse to acknowledge we only still have it because of Republicans know they’re cooked without it. Democrats said let’s ban it, Republicans said no. Maybe it’s because Republicans have run the numbers, and if they stop being able to use computers to choose their voters in advance, they will start losing elections.
The Indianapolis area should have three dedicated US representatives. It is the engine of this state. It does not because of the Republican Party, full stop. But hey, go on with the both sides business. Which tells me, you’re not actually all that against gerrymandering.
I recall the old PJ O’Rourke line – “Hillary’s wrong about absolutely everything, but she’s wrong within normal parameters.” What we’ve seen is the idea of “normal parameters” has been demolished, and we’re all the worse for it.
Joe B.
lol…You really believe that the Dems will relinquish any power or control at all over principal. If you do I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. The Dems are every bit as greedy trying gain power as the R’s.
Supporting people like Graham
Platner and his radical idiotic ideas is a perfect example. Lol…Especially against Susan Collins. She is as moderate as they come. She’s a marshmallow lol…..Yet you support the radical Dems. Truth is the Dem Party has completely shifted away from common sense moderation.
* You have lots of far left radicals in the Dem party tent that will never realize the greatness of this country. They only want to see themselves as entitled victims. They are the ones hunting for scapegoats, not the R’s.
You want Scandinavian style socialism??? How are you going to pay for it??? You can’t just tax the rich. It won’t work. Everyone will have to pay and pay dearly. Everyone will have to be productive. A concept that the Dems will fight tooth & nail. Also, Taxes will be much higher for everyone. Especially for the middle and lower classes. The middle and lower pay nothing right now on the federal level. But under the the Scandinavian type of socialism they will pay dearly. Also, our system can not support all the people that contribute very little to nothing. Once they are taxed, they will be able to afford very little, and will scream bloody murder. ***“ I thought everything was free!!!!!”.****
There is an entitlement mentality with Dem voters. That’s why European socialism will not work here.
I fully condemn the January 6th riots. I fully condemn the attack on our Capitol and on the police. ** I would have fully supported the police to use deadly force in that situation. The Capitol Police would have been justified to shoot many of the rioters.***
I also did NOT agree with the pardons. All of the convicted rioters should have served their sentences.
It is the Dems that refuse to condemn crime and violence.
Defund the police, refuse to acknowledge Antifa as a domestic violent terrorist group hell bent on the destruction of our Constitution and of Western Culture. Dems refused to condemn the rioting of 2020 or any previous rioting also. Dems are soft on crime and that is very evident by their actions.
The Dems do NOT support the police or victims rights. Only in Dem world , violence is speech, but speech is violence. Pretty convoluted if you ask me. But YOU support these people.
Dems don’t understand capitalism or economics. That’s why they say and do incredibly ridiculous things.
They have no comprehension of supply & demand or the that the economic pie is NOT a finite pie, but it is a growing pie. They don’t understand that people can get rich buy providing products and services that people WANT. Dems are taught an entitlement mentality that people only get wealthy by screwing over the little guy.
Want to hurt the rich, stop buying their products and services. Lol……As much as the Dems love to preach their class warfare, they will never give up their cell phones or the apps that come with them.
Talk about the gerrymandered district of Indianapolis, does my vote really count in such a large Dem majority district??? I will still vote because my vote is NOT being oppressed even though my candidate never wins in Indy. I will still continue voting.
I’ve said many times, that the R’s really anger me. Especially for not standing up to Trump.
But will you stand up to radical and racists Dems selling victimhood and entitlement within your party???????
Keith, I could type a lot of words but it’s a waste. Trump is doing everything you pretend Democrats are doing, and you’re blind to it all. Heck of a way to live, I guess.
Well, Joe B is at it again!! A “useful idiot” if there ever was one! The fact that Trump won two elections does not disprove fraud or election tinkering. Much has been revealed particularly in Georgia but it seems Mr. B in unaware!! Oh, and that pesky news item about 6,600 New Jersey non-citizens registered to vote??? No mention by Mr. B. Think of how many are in NY and CA alone and every other Democrat run state!! Oh, but No one here illegally votes, right??? Idiots!! To claim that Trump “oversaw” the 2020 elections reflects complete ignorance of our electoral system!! There are 51 elections for President and the President oversees none of it! Moronic Biden got 81 million legit votes???? You must still believe in the Easter Bunny!
Turn off the FOX and OAN. Nothing was revealed in Georgia, and anything Trump says about Georgia after he stole their ballots has as much credibility as Trump (none). Republicans in Georgia ran the 2020 election. The only thing revealed in Georgia is that Trump is a thin-skinned man, and if you don’t kiss his ring and do his bidding, he will come after you. This is how crime bosses or leaders of Communist countries behave.
A reminder, the current Secretary of State in Indiana was caught voting illegally and every supporter of Diego pretended it didn’t happen. The same party that chased out Charlie White in 2010 for voting illegally was silent in 2018 for Diego Morales. That tells me everything I need to know about the moral rot of the Trumpublican Party. But please, go on some more about fraud.
sycophant/ˈsikəfənt/”Psychophant” is a playful blend of the words “psycho” and “sycophant”, often used as a slang misspelling or creative portmanteau for an unhinged, obsessive flatterer.
Meaning and OriginDefinition: A person who flatters powerful people in a toxic, aggressive, or mentally unstable way.
Word Mix: Combines psycho (mental instability or extremism) with sycophant (a servile yes-man or bootlicker).

Warning: elections are vulnerable. Shameful pack of lies continued. More and more the it seems most plausible that the 2016 election was indeed hacked and the operatives of Party X were well aware of their misdeeds. So that knowledge haunts the guilty and leads to these ridiculous claims of voter fraud. Should mail in voting be eliminated it would free many women to vote as they please rather than being held at gunpoint by their loving companions to vote a certain way. Indiana should do nothing,. But the cultists leading the state will capitulate to whatever the inhabitant of the White House deems appropriate.
4 things that would be more effective at protecting our elections than the SAVE Act:
1) Campaign Contribution reforms and transparency/PAC and lobbyists reform
2) Term limits
3) AI regulations – misinformation from both foreign and domestic sources is a legitimate concern
4) Gerrymandering controls – for both parties
As with all things Trump, the SAVE act will do the exact opposite of what is promised. It has nothing to do with saving elections, it has everything to do with disenfranchising voters and making it far easier for the federal government to choose who votes.
Disagree with me? Fine. Read the bill and think to yourself, would I have wanted Obama or Hillary or Biden to have those powers? Would I have wanted one of them to determine who got mail-in ballots and who didn’t?
Joe B. – My post was not in support of the SAVE act. Hopefully it did not come across as suportive.
It did not, no worries.
so, Joe B tells me to turn off OAN and learn “the truth” about the sanctity of Georgia’s 2020 election and is “concerned” about the FBI’s seizure of ballots. Why? If nothing is there, why the concern? Is it bc you don’t trust the FBI? Maybe that’s bc you leftists politicized it so much you think every FBI leader is as crooked as Comey! You remember..Comey…he exonerated HRC when he got heat for disclosing her email scandal! Oh, and he tried to set Trump up on the “Russian collusion” hoax you so ardently believed in.
It wasn’t a hoax, and Kash Patel isn’t qualified for his job.
CHUGGING that Kool-Aid. You should go fix your Hillary Derangement Syndrome.
Sorry to all the TDS people.
The Trump / Russia Collusion was a hoax perpetuated by the Obama Administration with help of clapper, Brennan, Mc Kay, and others. Anyone that denies this is delusional at best.
Keith, those who accuse others of TDS are suffering from TDS themselves. Here’s the reality:
“While this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”
or the long version:
“Our investigation found multiple acts by the President that were capable of exerting undue influence over law enforcement investigations, including the Russian-interference and obstruction investigations,” Mueller wrote. “The incidents were often carried out through one-on-one meetings in which the President sought to use his official power outside of usual channels. These actions ranged from efforts to remove the Special Counsel and to reverse the effect of the Attorney General’s recusal; to the attempted use of official power to limit the scope of the investigation; to direct and indirect contacts with witnesses with the potential to influence their testimony.”
Mueller, however, refrained from recommending prosecution, saying that there were “difficult [legal] issues that would need to be resolved,” in order to reach a conclusion that the crime of obstruction of justice was committed by Trump.
Factoring into his decision not to weigh in on prosecution, Mueller wrote, was an opinion issued by the Office of Legal Counsel finding that “the indictment or criminal prosecution of a sitting President would impermissibly undermine the capacity of the executive branch to perform its constitutionally assigned functions” in violation of “the constitutional separation of powers.”
“Because we determined not to make a traditional prosecutorial judgment, we did not draw ultimate conclusions about the President’s conduct,” Mueller wrote.
Mueller emphasized, however, that his analysis of the evidence did not clear the president of obstruction. Said Mueller: “[I]f we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state. Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, we are unable to reach that judgment.”
it was never a hoax. But keep on pretending otherwise.
