    1. My wife, who grew up as a longtime IPS student of Raymond Brandes Jr. hopes School 65, named in honor of Raymond Brandes Sr. goes to Damar to further support the educational endeavors of IDD youth.

  1. As a tax payer, I strongly resent government property being given away to a private entity. To add insult to injury, there is a strong possibility the new owner is going to be a not-for-profit and will pay no local property tax.

    1. yes, IPS needs to shed unused fixed cost facilities. But the issue is at what price? Is it appropriate to order IPS to lease a building for $1 when maybe it has a value of $1 million? And if its just a lease, is it really “shed?” Or does IPS continue to be responsible for maintenance and upkeep and receive $1 per year. Or should the “not for profit” that seeks to run a school on the premises include in their budget the costs of purchasing the building, and making such repairs as are needed and generally maintaining the building?

  2. IPS says they want the transfer of their facilities to be part of a “collaborative community process.” That’s a joke. Members of the community surrounding Howe High School, and Howe Alumni were part of one of IPS’ collaborative processes. The school district was shamefully untrustworthy in their dealings.
After making commitments to keep the school open, of course they closed it, only to reopen as a middle school when other schools expressed interest in the property.
