  1. The problem is the people responsible for ensuring everyone else gets paid, fed, health insurance, etc. are totally uneffected by the shutdown. They still have their pay checks, health insurance and groceries with no problems. Of course with more than half of the people in congress being millionaires, normal life does not really affect them anyway.

  2. This is only one problem Mr. Thomas.
Imagine the mockery from foreigners on the entire escapade. He’s bailing other countries, Building his Nuc’ arsenal, building his party center, playing with Kim Jung Un and letting our country put on a show to foreigners. Whoever’s falt this hold up is,,, its the boss’s job to not let the money hold up continue.
And with all his threats to Hamas, hes not doing much with his threats.

  3. Just think if the Dems passed the clean CR they voted for in March. Adding $1.5T in entitlements for illegal alien healthcare and LGBTQ in Uganda isn’t worth the fight over the people that really need it. We need just 6 Dems to approve the budget without another trillion and a half in Dem grift. They can politick after they approve the basic spending plan for the poorest Americans. Such a sad policy stand for Hakeem and Chuck. Get your heads out of your arses.

    1. Ryan – try something other than Fox News.

“Illegal aliens” don’t get health care – except to the extent people such as yourself insist they wait until their condition is severe enough they must go to the ER where care costs 5-10x as much.

Or, you could let them die in the waiting room (or maybe ICE will scoop them up and let them die in detention).

The Uganda thing is a distraction – maybe it’s 0.01% of the total.

And we all know, including you, that the GOP won’t start to “politic” about the ACA subsidies if the Dems approve the CR first. Turn the tables- if the GOP is willing to negotiate for continuing the CA subsidies, do it NOW before asking the Dems to approve the CR.

    2. Ryan, Republicans knew the calculus months ago. This bill was either going to first have to pass out of the Senate or it was going to take negotiation and bipartisanship to advance out of the House.

Democrats are now dealing with a caucus that’s now presented them with the negotiating position of “submit to our desire to take health care away from millions of Americans to pay for yet more tax cuts for the wealthy, and if you won’t, we will start starving people”.

And, sure, right, trust that Republicans are serious about negotiating on health care. The party that, 15 years in, doesn’t have a health care plan and never will. The party that has done everything it can to demolish the ACA because … best I can tell, Obama passed it instead of them. Republicans have spent so long demonizing the ACA that you forget it’s much more of a Republican healthcare plan than some “Medicaid for all” you’d have expected from Democrats. And, oh yeah, the party that believes any Congressional spending that just be wiped out via rescission anyway. Democrats, c’mon, trust us! We’re a real political party and not a personality cult! We won’t pull away the football this time!

Republicans should just blow up the filibuster. They’ve long since stopped caring about the Senate being a serious deliberate body, not since Mitch McConnell started filibustering milquetoast Cabinet candidates under Obama like Chuck Hagel. Just reopen the government and own what’s happening – as Trumpublicans love to proclaim, this is what people voted for. This is exactly the government that all those annoying libs told they they’d get. Let’s give it to them right now and feel what “winning” feels like.

  4. I guess when the contingency funds run out, the judges will order the government to raise taxes to pay for it. “A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take everything that you have.” — a misquotation of Jefferson’s comment, “The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground. It’s a shame to watch our government fight over gaining ground.
