    1. The Pittsburgh media is reporting the current GEagle CEO says they will keep the name, staff, and quality that they currently have, and will operate separately from Kroger. We certainly hope so.

  1. Hopefully, this will resolve the issue in Greenwood with the Market District that was to go in at Smith Valley and Morgantown Roads. They began construction and then it stopped and the lot sits vacant. Any news on this situation?

  2. Agreed to all of the other comments. This is terrible news. Market District is great. Kroger can’t even keep their stores looking nice. For a market our size, there is absolutely no variety. Even Kansas City has Price Chopper, Hen House, Hy-Vee, for general grocery stores and then also has Cosantinos, Sun Fresh, TJ’s and Whole Foods.

  3. Hirrible news for consumers in the Indianapolis metro area. Kroger has driven out competition and offers lesser quality, poorer selection in dirty stores.

  4. Hirrible news for consumers in the Indianapolis metro area. Kroger has driven out competition and offers lesser quality, poorer selection in dirty stores.

  5. This is awful news! I can’t stand shopping at the Kroger on 86th St in Nora. They never have such limited choices in their inventory and the lay out of that store is chaotic at best. I switched to Giant Eagle because the employees are friendly, inventory and selection options are fantastic and the store is always stocked and clean. Deli options so much better than at Kroger. I hope they let it run as it always has been.

    1. Kroger is a national brand which many times does not rebrand other chains when they buy them. Ralph’s in CA owned by Kroger, Harris Teeter owned by Kroger. It will be interesting to see if they remain under the Market District name or switch to Kroger.

  6. Not a good thing, Kroger stores have such a llimited selection and are usually dirty and disorganized. And I can tell you it is no different from community to community.

  7. This is a shame. I drive right pass Kroger stores to shop at Market District in Carmel. Not a good development for shoppers seeking quality and a superior shopping experience. Even the employees at Market District are a cut above the sloppily dressed and snarly ones you find at Kroger.

    1. I don’t mean to disrespect the Kroger chain but I do agree that the staff and the shopping experience at my Market District are superior to what I’ve experienced at my local Kroger.

    1. There are only two Market Districts in Indy. You also have Kroger, Walmart, Meijer, Super Target, Aldi, Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Fresh Thyme, Needlers, Warehouse Clubs, etc. Monopolization?

    2. Kroger and Giant Eagle said that they anticipate having to divest a limited number of Giant Eagle stores in order to receive the necessary regulatory clearance for the transaction.

    3. Fresh Thyme is owned by Meijer. Hyvee is also looking to come to Indianapolis and has already acquired a few sites where they plan on building stores.
While the central Indianapolis area waits for its first standalone Hy-Vee, the company officially entered the state in 2024 by acquiring the 22-store Strack & Van Til supermarket chain, which operates primarily in northwest Indiana.

  8. So very disappointing. Kroger used to at least attempt to have nicer stores when Marsh was around, but after Marsh closed, Kroger went way down hill. Market District has been a wonderful place to shop and a preferred store for me. I’m sure I’m just being hopeful, but perhaps Kroger will decide to have a higher tier store? Fingers crossed!
