5 thoughts on “Indiana lawmakers’ nuclear energy push pays off earlier than expected

  1. The best way to ensure that the jobs are filled by Hoosiers would have been to invest in an educational system that would have sent lots of Indiana kids to an Indiana school like Purdue to learn nuclear engineering.

A workforce development strategy of trying to have a baby in one month by throwing nine people at the task isn’t going to work, nor is the idea that when it comes to running a nuclear power plant, where you live is more important than your skill set.

It’s not like the legislature, where anyone can declare themselves qualified for the task if they’re hung out with Ted Cruz for awhile.

    1. Did you go to Purdue? Did you see who was in the nuclear engineering program there? I bet not…

  2. Excellent, well sourced article! Personally I am very excited for the potential of SMRs to help bridge the gap for the state’s energy needs. Fair points by the skeptics as well, glad someone is looking out for the native Indiana workforce and environment concerns.

  3. Nuclear is expensive to build. Anyone that thinks otherwise is uninformed. However, it might keep electric bills 30 years from now lower than if other technologies are built today. When Ireland says all-of-the-above does he include solar and wind? While not perfect – in reality, no generation technology is perfect – those should be part of the solution.
