All the programs that have tax implications and are citizen restricted already ask this question. Living, working, paying taxes in the US doesn’t depend on your citizenship and this is just another intimidation tactic and will result in making criminals out of hardworking people when they have to make a choice when they file taxes.
The point is cruelty and fear.
So if they are paying billions in taxes and are already unable to collect on the benefits since they do not have a social security number it makes no sense. We lose billions of direly needed funds as this administration continues to spend like the is no tomorrow. Trump, the true RINO!
An administration that was serious about actually collecting moneys due would not continually be fighting to defund the IRS.
It will take decades for this country to undo the damage caused by the Trump administration. An immediate rollback of all executive orders, undo of all legislation passed, and cancellation of all judicial appointments doesn’t even begin to address what is needed.
Another dumb and misguided purely for show “act tough” policy that accomplishes *nothing,* and will likely harm our country.
Everyone, citizen or not, who has US source taxable income is generally required to pay US taxes and file a return (there are limited exceptions). It does not matter whether you are in the country lawfully or not, you still have to pay taxes and file a return.
All this *goofy* little checkbox will accomplish is to *discourage* some individuals from filing and paying their required taxes. All the credits and other tax benefits that require US citizenship are already crossed-checked against the filing ID to verify the taxpayer is eligible. And, if the supposed concern is that someone may use another taxpayer’s SSN to file, do they honestly believe anyone filing with a stolen tax ID would truthfully answer a checkbox question?
How dumb does the Trump administration think everyone else is? It boggles my mind that they push this utter nonsense and pretend they are doing something legitimate.
