The Republican caucus should reach out to their many fellow Republicans at the Indiana legislature and tell them to stop under-funding Marion County roads. As a state, we are giving INDOT far too much money that is spent either on roads that don’t see significant usage, or projects that aren’t all that important.
The time has come for the funding formula to get changed, and if that underfunds the parts of Indiana where no one wants to live, that’s just the breaks.
Agreed. Once the new Ohio River Crossing is done, the Indiana Highway System is effectively complete. Where are we going to build new highways to? More expensive bypasses around tiny towns to save 30 seconds? The Mid-States Corridor is a total joke. $1 billion to rip through our State forests and why? To bypass Loogootee and save, on average, about 2-5 minutes of travel time? The ROI on that has to be absolute trash. $1 billion would be enough to make major improvements to the Chicago – Indy – Louisville rail line and give lots of new service to towns big and small (but that’s neither here nor there…).
Unless there’s suddenly explosive growth in the rural parts of the state, there just isn’t sufficient demand to justify brand-new highways. INDOT should go into maintenance-mode, make incremental upgrades to the roadway network, leverage Indiana’s existing infrastructure to expand transportation choices, and give Marion County their fair share.

I am going to see if I need a registration for a horse for travel soon. Roads in my neighborhood have not been touched for 21 years except for the multiple layers of patching. I am almost certain I could cut through the pothole patches and it would look like a 15 layer cake.
