Fishers banquet hall set for sheriff’s sale; owner cites ‘technical problem’

A stand-alone banquet and conference center in Fishers is scheduled to go on the block at a July 17 sheriff’s sale, but its owners say that’s a mistake they hope to resolve before then.

Cincinnati-based First Financial Bank filed a foreclosure lawsuit in November, claiming Fishers Conference Center LLC had defaulted on its loan. In April, Hamilton Superior Judge Steve Nation awarded the bank a $1.3 million summary judgment.

“The note is current and was when [the foreclosure] was filed,” said Dan Kincaid, president of sister firm Kincaid Realty Associates. “It’s a technical problem.”

He said the issue relates a personal guarantee Kincaid’s father, Donald, made for the loan before he died in 2008. Kincaid said the family-owned firm is contesting the judgment, and the conference center continues to operate.

First Financial’s attorney did not return a call from IBJ.

Located at 9779 North by Northeast Boulevard, the newly renamed Fishers Banquet & Conference Center opened in 2006, offering 4,200 square feet of meeting space within walking distance of four hotels just east of Interstate 69. (The Kincaids also have an ownership stake in the Hilton Garden Inn next door, but the facilities are not connected.)

General Manager Camille Keys said business is booming, with five to eight events scheduled every week. Saturdays are booked solid through the end of the year, she said, the 2015 calendar is filling up fast.

“It’s not a financial situation,” she said of the legal proceeding.
