Here are some options to upgrade your week.

Summer Rewind

The Heartland Film Festival offers counter-programming to Hollywood blockbusters (and would-be blockbusters) with this collection of highlights from past fests. It kicks off with the outstanding documentary “An Honest Liar,” including a visit from its subject, magician/debunker/hero of mine James Randi on June 18. Other screenings include “Drunktown’s Finest,” “Light Fly, Fly High,” and the musical “Lucky Stiff.”

Idiot Anthems

If you’ve seen the Phoenix Theatre’s production of “American Idiot” and want more, you could go see it again (if shows aren’t sold out). In addition though, you can also catch this promising spin-off, a concert of “songs that convey the inner turmoil and angst we felt during our most impressionable years” Each of six “American Idiot” cast members have picked a stage song and a radio song or this mixtape $5 one-night-only show.

Summer Solstice

This free day at the Indianapolis Museum of Art includes a community picnic (including a blanket drop-off afterwards for charity), singer/musician Aurelio Martinez performing in 100 Acres, and an art-swap where visitors are invited to bring work of their own or whatever has been sitting around in the attic to trade with other like-minded folks. The two rules are that the work must fit on your blanket and only non-cash transactions are allowed.
