IU officials say the school system enrolled 94,698 students statewide this fall, a decrease of 0.7 percent from last year. Almost 70 percent of those students are Indiana residents.
IU's campuses are IU Bloomington, IUPUI, IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU South Bend and IU Southeast.
The main campus in Bloomington has 43,710 students, down 0.1 percent overall from 2016. Undergraduates in Bloomington are up 0.6 percent, to 33,429, but the campus has 2.3 percent fewer graduate and doctoral students (10,503).
Enrollment at IUPUI dipped less than a tenth of a percent, to 29,791 students. The campus set records for degree-seeking Hispanic/Latino students (1,949), Asian-American students (1,441) and international students (1,985). The incoming IUPUI class set records for size (4,093), minority enrollment (27.9 percent) and average SAT composite score (1,118).
IU's regional campuses in South Bend and New Albany had the biggest enrollment declines at about 4 percent. The Kokomo campus is the only one with more students, going up 2.3 percent.
The university says one reason for the regional campus enrollment decline is some potential students are opting to go straight into the job market.
