Subscribe NowMarion County Prosecutor Terry Curry announced Tuesday afternoon that Fort Wayne-based attorney Daniel Sigler has been appointed special prosecutor in the sexual misconduct investigation of Attorney General Curtis Hill.
Sigler, who has mediated more than 3,500 federal and state cases over the last 20 years, served as special prosecutor against former Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White, who was convicted of felony voter fraud in 2012.
Marion County Superior Court Judge Lisa F. Borges made the appointment of Sigler Tuesday.
Hill is accused of inappropriately touching Rep. Mara Candelaria Reardon, D-Munster; Gabrielle McLemore, communications director for the Indiana Senate Democrats; and two other women at a party at a bar in March after the General Assembly session ended.
Curry said two weeks ago that a special prosecutor would be appointed to assist the Office of the Indiana Inspector General in the investigation of Hill.
He said the appointment was necessary to avoid the appearance of impropriety because Hill is representing the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office in two civil cases.
Curry said the special prosecutor will confer with the inspector general and make the "ultimate determination if criminal charges are warranted" in the case.
Gov. Eric Holcomb, House Speaker Brian Bosma, Senate President Pro Tem David Long and other Republican and Democratic elected officials have called for Hill to resign amid the accusations.
Hill has denied the accusations, calling them "vicious and false." He said he might file a defamation lawsuit over the accusations.
