Why would Stutzman release a statement about an Illinois team looking at sites that aren’t in his district? Why would Inside Indiana Business repeat his statement? He’s a US congressman and shouldn’t have anything to do with the State and local tax dollars that will likely be used as a carrot for the Bears. He shouldn’t speak on behalf of IN taxpayers! These politicians can’t help themselves – seeking the spotlight.
Funny how gullible Indiana politicos are. This will never happen. I’d give 10:1 odds against it happening in the next 5 years. My $1,000 against a taker’s $100. Need to work on logistics of the bet….
While I agree that da Bears are using Indiana for leverage, never underestimate the arrogance and stupidity of Illinois Democrats! While I believe they’ll cave in the end, they may not and it would be an injection of real juice in a section of Indiana that needs it. We have the budgetary wherewithal to do it and, if possible, we should go for it!
A new stadium comes with substantial private sector development and a Super Bowl.

This is probably a once in a generation chance to bring renewal to an area that has been economically devastated since the 80’s. This is a longshot Indiana should take seriously whether its a negotiating tactic or not. You definitely miss 100% of the chances you don’t take.
This in not so far fetched …. both the Jets and Giants play on a wetland (swamp) in a different state, just outside and within site of the downtown skyline of their named city. This would be a shot across the bow from the league to other NFL states … don’t play games with us on stadium issues.

The Statehouse and Governor have typically ignored Northwest Indiana so why now and why on this issue? Is this more Red state vs Blue state silliness, like the ridiculous attempt to “annex” some rural counties in Illinois? I’d like to see the Region get more love, but methinks this is folly, and yes, for the Bears, just a bargaining tool. If you’re really that amped about using sports as a development tool, why so reticent about Indianapolis landing an MLS team and building a soccer stadium? Oh yeah, the mayor’s a Democrat. Silly and small-minded. For my money, help the region, go ahead and land the Bears, and let’s get MLS in Indy — all three, damn the politics of it all.
So anyone living in the northern or western suburbs of Chicago or at the Wisconsin line are going to drive 2 hours to see a game? I think it will hurt ticket sales from their fan base so they won’t do it.
NFL team revenues do not rely very heavily on ticket sales.
Plus, their fan base extends to the south of Soldier Field, throughout Da Region (NWI), and into the SW corner of Michigan. They’ll sell tickets in Hammond.
Not even the inept Democrats-Illinois Governor and Mayor of Chicago will ever let this happen. The other NFL owners would not go for this either. As much fun as it is to think about—Ain’t gonna happen. Arlington Park will be the new home.
