9 thoughts on “Republican senators file bill to restore alumni-elected positions to IU’s board of trustees

  1. The alumni elected Trustees should be restored ASAP. Their removal was one of the more misguided decisions made by the legislature. That the law didn’t apply to other state universities, showed it was strictly an anti-IU amendment.

    1. Agree, the legislation removing the alumni Board member election was slipped into the Budget Bill at the last minute, which prevented discussion much less opposition from either side of the aisle. The pawn Braun went along as it gave him more power, which must be why he ran for governor in the first place. He’s proven that he certainly didn’t run to help fellow Hoosiers.

    2. All legislation that was slipped into that budget bill at the last minute should be reversed, and the legislators responsible should be censured. Never would happen, though.

    3. This is a step in the right direction of restoring some semblance of integrity to our government. We need to keep purging the MAGA influences.

  2. Definitely the alumni should have a say in electing thier board. Why the governor thinks he is qualified to control is beyond reason. Yes, a couple of state appointees, but left the school then control its future.

  3. I’d love a reminder of what percentage of the IU budget is actually covered by state appropriations. If it’s, say, 50-60%, then one might make an argument that no more than 60% of the board seats ought to be controlled by state appointers (governor).
