They’ve been working for 8 months on this one section. DPW only works during weekdays and stops work by 5pm everyday so it’s not a shock this is taking extremely long. Was there no budget for overtime to help give this area some relief? Additionally DPW is using residential side streets to move and store their equipment which is tearing up the already crumbling roads around Shelby. There is no funding earmarked to restore the side streets that are being damaged by the Shelby street project.

Was down there 2 weeks ago and what a nightmare! Signage stinks, parking makes no sense and I am willing to bet there was nothing in the contract to penalize the contractor for going past a deadline.
Today I discovered the Morris St bridge over I65 was completely closed. That cut off one of my routes to the I65 south bound ramp. It looks like INDOT is moving forward with the south split project by sneaking it right past the Rethink 65/70 Coalition.
It used to be that the city and state carefully planned road projects and publicized their impact well. Other than the Clear Path 465 project on the northeast side, we now get major, disruptive projects with very little information or fanfare or apparent thought about impacts. Case in point, the I-65 work downtown and just to the south of downtown (not far from the Shelby Street work, in fact, and making navigating the area all the more complicated). How can they just close entire stretches of highway, or severely limit them, without significant notice? Or are they trying to get the word out and the local media are just ignoring it? That is always possible, too.

A 7 story 250 room property scheduled for completion in 24-30 months (which might beat the FS project) All the same variables are in play, but the people on that project have performance indicators good and bad, while the government employees meander along unencumbered and funded by the taxpayer

Michael, they are both construction projects. Variables include: Labor, Subs, weather, supply chain, costs of materials and labor. The only real difference is, one is being built by the private sector.
