Who’s paying to upgrade the electrical grid?
I have to ask, what’s the difference between this and filling that area with mixed use & commercial projects or another logistics center? I don’t see the difference. With the water question being answered by the owner/developer that leaves power. That’s simple, they are paying for the necessary upgrades to existing infrastructure. If that’s not enough, they can always add a solar component to the plan. Panels on the buildings or covering the parking lots and photovoltaic flexible tape to the sides of the buildings (that’s a real product out of Europe). There are answers /solutions to all of the vexing heartburn inducing questions if all will just take a deep breath and think outside the box on these developments.
Yes, all those big boxes shown in the illustration (and for that matter, all the warehouses owned by Prologis all over the place) have big roofs ideal for solar pwer installation that doesn’t eat up cornfields.
The majority of data centers have cooling systems on the roof so solar panel installation isn’t possible. They will pull energy from the grid like all the other data centers, and we will pay for it. Privatize the profits, socialize the losses.
From what I understand, this project is going to bring in a tremendous amount of money to Shelbyville overtime. It will be transformative for Shelbyville and its citizens. They will recieve tens of millions in the near term and more than $500 millon over 20 years with full development of the site. Other data centers in other places were poorly negotiated by the state. This one is a great deal for the community. Look at the facts.
