Tearing it down sound perfect to me. It is funny the buyer has to work with the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission because it is on Mass Ave. Where was the commission when this ugly building was allowed to be built?? Go Mr. Pritt,, please tear this down someday !!
Don’t quote me on this, but it probably has more to do with Mass Ave being a historic district and there’s an assessment to any “contributing” building. This building clearly ISN’T one, but it’s definitely in the district. My guess is the commission will be more concerned with what replaces it than this building coming down, since it’s non-contributing.
As for where the commission was when it was built, it was a different time. How old is this turkey—30 years? 35? At that time, Mass Ave wasn’t much of anything, so the City was probably eager for anything to get built, even if it failed to maximize the parcel as this one did.
Speaking of which, I’d absolutely hope the Commission will ensure a better use of the land than what came before it. Ideally, market forces would demand it too.
Sounds great! Definitely looking forward to a future redevelopment. The current building is hideous and the site definitely commands a more intense use.
Wasn’t this the old Dean Johnson Gallery?
Bill’s venues always put out a great product! Can wait to try this one!
Ironic that this awful old building was built by a graphic design firm, since it’s the architectural equivalent of the “graphic design is my passion” jokes. Happy that somebody is going to make better use of this parcel!
