Duke probably is still trying to pay for their boondoggle coal gasification plant construction costs overrun, my favorite term, change orders, that they couldn’t manage. The original cost was pegged at 1.9 billion and ended up doubling in cost to 3.6 billion as was published. No big deal they say, “the Indiana folks are stupid and they’ll never figure out what’s going on”. That includes Duke’s cronies in the IURC rubber stamping anything by Duke when they come to the table crying, “we need more money” so Duke can give its’ shareholders big bucks returns. The Duke monopoly needs to be more stringently controlled and the IURC needs to step up their act. How many of the big 5 are actual Duke ratepayers? Citizens Action Coalition and Governor Mike, please fire away at this matter. Step up on behalf of the largest group of electricity ratepayers in Indiana and tell Duke to manage its costs.
