I guess it’s a start. I wouldn’t want to live there. The area around LOS is a sea of empty lots, concrete, dilapidated warehouse and industrial buildings, cheap prefab structures, lots of usually empty parking lots, and no green space of any kind. It’s even worse and more desolate and depressing in the winter. That said — hope it’s a start. Flint Michigan is infinitely more livable.
The future that Hammond craves!
The difference between this project site and Flint, MI is that you can walk 20 minutes from your apartment and be in the heart of Indianapolis, while in Flint, MI, if you walk 20 minutes, you are still in Flint, MI.
??? It’s short walk from the new Henry St. bridge and the White River Trail, Parkway, State Park, gardens/zoo, and The Vic.
About time! Amazing how the failure of the Old City Hall site financing freed up funding for this 2 year old proposal.
Plus the south end has been waiting for development since Lucas Oil was built.

Feel free to build something better, with your money
If TWG can’t get financed for this project, they might as well dig a hole and stick their head in it. This is the same developer that got in over its head with the Old City Hall development. Now the city is casting its net nationwide to attract more capable developers that won’t have issues getting financed. Either way good luck to them and I hope there’s even more development around Lucas Oil. There needs to be major development around the stadium to keep up with all the other more modern stadiums being built around the league.
Right on Kevin! It’s one tall order. The entire area from South Street to the north to McCarty Street on the south, and Missouri St. on the west and Capitol Avenue on the east is one ugly area: post office, usually-empty parking lots, ramshackle light industrial or abandoned buildings — this is a very far cry from modern stadium/arena “district” planning and design. Not a criticism, just an observation. LOS may still be a showcase and asset for the city, but it’s not evidenced in the neighborhood surrounding it. It’s depressing and anything but impressive.
