  1. The cost of college has increased at 4 times the rate of inflation over the past 40 years. Why? Every time more financial aid and student loans were made available, schools jacked up the tuition to soak it up. That’s the real reason for their problems.

    1. Childish. Adds nothing to a substantive approach to the issue. Agree that administration in education, government, and private business has a tendency to inflate their own self-importance and competency (or lack thereof) by adding layer after layer until as they get further removed from the basic product or service — in this case, education.

  2. Let’s all just say it like it is…universities are becoming glorified trade schools. If you can’t draw a straight line between a college degree and a job, society is saying more and more, your degree is figuratively and literally worth less. Sure, we need doctors, scientists, business people, lawyers, engineers, etc. but society as a whole loses when it is choked off from people who write poetry, learn history, argue philosophy, understand religion, play better music and want to study to become better actors and artists.
