Parent has spent 15 years at IBJ, starting out as a reporter covering real estate. The prospect of enticing food, music and joie de vivre lured her south to New Orleans, where she spent three sweaty years at CityBusiness, a weekly newspaper. She eventually returned to Indianapolis and now edits IBJ’s graphics, opinion pages and monthly Small Biz section. Parent also pens a column when she gets her dander up. An Indianapolis native, Parent graduated from Howe High School and Indiana University, with degrees in journalism and French. She spent two years living in France, an experience that left her with a hopeless case of Francophilia and wanderlust. She volunteers for Meals on Wheels, the International Center of Indianapolis and IPS’ Center for Inquiry. The rest of her free time is spent biking around her historic Irvington neighborhood with her family and burning way too much midnight oil devouring novels.
