The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra announced its 2010/2011 season today and the lineup includes some famliar pop names as well as a long list of conductors, returning and new. The latter, of course, is of significance to anyone wondering who will eventually take the now-vacant position of ISO Music Director.
Those leading the ISO for the first time will be:
--Juraj Valcuha, Chief Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfornica Nazionale della RAI, Torino.
--Joanna Carneiro, Musical Director of the Berkeley Symphony.
--Pablo Heras-Casado, a 31-year-old conductor already with a world premiere recordings under his baton.
--,Christoph Eberle, former Principal Conductor for the Vienaa Chamber Orchestra.
Many of you, of course, will have skimmed past all that to get to the big names who will be performing with the ISO this season. The visitors include:
--Violinists Midori, Joshua Bell and Itzhak Perlman
--Pianist Andre Watts
--ISO debuts from pianists Jeremy Denk and Antti Siirala, and cellist Zuill Bailey.
On the Pops front, there's:
--Vocalists Ann Hampton Callaway and Liz Callaway
--Vocalist/Dancer/Comic Wayne Brady (of "Whose Line Is It Anyway" fame)
--Opera star Sylvia McNair and pop harmonists The Four Freshman (together)
--Jazz ensemble Pink Martini.
--Mime Dan Kamin
--Dennis De Young, from Styx (and also the composer of the tunes for the musical "101 Dalmations," coming to town Tuesday as part of the Broadway in Indianapolis season)
And Sandi Patty returns as host for the annual "Yuletide Celebration."
And then there's Liza.
Yes, Liza Minnelli will be making her ISO debut.
