A&E Roundup: $300k for Indy artist, ‘Fargo’ out in the cold, more

Emptying the arts notebook. Here goes:

Indianapolis-based artist Anila Quayyum Agh scored an unprecedented double victory in the Grand Rapids ArtPrize competition. Not only did her work "Intersections" (see it here) land the $200,000 public-vote grand prize, it also picked up another $100,000 by tying for the jury prize.

Indiana University alumnus Michael Uslan, a Hollywood film producer best known for the recent iterations of the Batman franchise, will join the IU Media School faculty beginning in Spring of 2015. Uslan, credited as the first person to write a textbook on comics, still has movie projects on his plate, including "Batman v. Superman; Dawn of Justice," "Shazam" and "Doc Savage."

"Typhoid Mary," a play by Phoenix Theatre Playwright-in-Residence Tom Horan, will be among six new plays read in Sarasota, FL, at the National Showcase of New Plays. The showcase is a launching pad for shows to the National New Play Network, a group of theaters that includes the Phoenix. "Typhoid Mary" is already set for an April, 2015 production here but landing a spot in this lineup increases its chances of productions around the country.

The Indianapolis Museum of Art has announced its Winter Nights movie series. Titles include "Spirited Away," "A Hard Day's Night," "Bringing Up Baby," "An Affair to Remember," and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." All will be shown indoors…except for "Fargo." Prepare to bundle up for that Jan. 23 screening.
