I've got high hopes for these events this week:

Christian McBride Big Band

Who said big-band music is dead? This 17-piece ensemble picked up a Grammy in 2012 for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for its first release. March 4 Palladium Details

“Speedy”

The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra provides live musical accompaniment to the otherwise silent Harold Lloyd comedy about an unemployed Yankees fan. Watch for a cameo from Babe Ruth himself. I’ll be offering the introduction. March 4  Indianapolis Museum of Art  Details

Stefan Milenkovich

The 1994 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis silver medalist is joined by accordionist Marko Hatlak for a cabaret-style concert that’s part of the IVCI Laureate Series. March 1 Indiana Landmarks Center  Details

Michael Feinstein and Cheyenne Jackson

The artistic director of the Center for the Performing Arts teams up once again (they recorded an album, “The Power of Two,” in 2008) with the star of Broadway’s “Xanadu” and “Finian’s Rainbow.” March 5 Palladium Details

Also this week

The treasured Indianapolis-based folk band Hogeye Navvy plays a shanty-filled concert for kids March 5 at the Palladium.

Ricky Lee Jonescomes to the Warehouse March 4. Kacey Musgraves plays the Egyptian Room March 4, and Lil Wayne visits IU’s Assembly Hall in Bloomington March 3.

In advance of its “Steinbeck Out Loud” event March 19, Storytelling Arts of Indiana offers a screening of “The Grapes of Wrath,” March 6 at Central Library.

Gallery’s throughout center city open their doors for IDADA’s First Friday March 4.

Ramin Karimloo, from Broadway’s “Les Miserables” revival, offers a from-Broadway-to-Bluegrass concert March 4-5 at the Cabaret at the Columbia Club.

‘Stomp”comes back to town, playing Clowes Hall March 4-5.
