High-hopes for these March 21-27 events and openings:

“The Grand Canyon”

For a big hole in the ground, the Grand Canyon has gotten a lot of attention over the years. The fact that it’s a spectacular, living monument to the power of nature could have something to do with that. In its latest large-scale show, the Eiteljorg celebrates the natural wonder via art and artifacts, educational programs, storytelling, films and more.

Fountain Square Music Festival

Thurston Moore, founder and guitarist for Sonic Youth, brings his new band, The Thurston Moore Group, to town to headline this multi-venue festival. Also included: Andrew W.K. (aka “The King of Partying”), Kishi Bashi, Kimya Dawson, Andrew Belle, Mexican Institute of Sound, and many, many more. Note: 21 and older. Two-day passes available.

March 25-26 Fountain Square Details

Circus Day

Back-to-back-to-back screenings of Disney’s “Dumbo,” performances by the Hampel Family Circus, animal acts, kids karaoke, and a magic show are the core events at this annual celebration that includes the requisite face painting, balloon sculptures, popcorn, cotton candy, and more. Admission is free. Game and refreshment tickets will set you back 50 cents.

Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre revives “Superhero” March 25-26 at the Tarkington.

On March 25 at IU Cinema, director Kris Swanberg will be on hand for a screening of her new film, “Unexpected,” starring Cobie Smulders.

Vintage Movie Night at Garfield Park March 26 screens the comedy classic “To Be or Not to Be” starring Carole Lombard.

Tank plays the Egyptian Room March 24.

Aeschylus gets an Eclectic Pond overhaul in “Prometheus Bound,” March 24-April 3 at the Wheeler Arts Community Center.

The U.S. Army Field Band plays a free concert March 28 at Clowes Hall.

On the comedy front, new Daily Show host Travor Noah offers stand-up at the Murat March 25 while Martin Lawrence plays Indiana Farmers Coliseum March 26. Comedians Jon Colby and Will Pfaffenberger team up for “Dudesical” at Theatre on the Square March 26. And Gal Pal Comedy Festival wraps up with a March 25 performance including stand-up, short- and long-form improv, and more at ComedySportz Theatre.
