Zionsville Town Council agreed Tuesday to offer an Indianapolis tech-staffing firm up to $25,000 to move its growing operation to Northwest Technology Center.

The training grant, paid for with revenue from Zionsville’s food-and-beverage tax, is part of a $125,000 incentive package that’s on the table for Smart IT Staffing Inc. The Boone County Redevelopment Commission would provide the additional funding.

Company officials are still negotiating a purchase agreement for a 40,000-square-foot building in the tech-oriented office park on 96th Street just west of Zionsville Road. Other tenants include health IT firm hc1.com and Mobi Wireless Management.

If the deal goes through, Smart IT would invest about $2 million in the new headquarters.

Founded in 2005, Smart IT provides contract staffing and full-time placement services for companies seeking information technology workers. It also has offices in Ohio.

The company announced plans to expand its downtown Indianapolis headquarters in 2010, promising to create 80 jobs by the end of this year. Smart IT now has 152 employees, up from 44 at the time, according to the Boone County Economic Development Corp.

Smart IT expects to add another 85 positions paying more than $25 per hour over the next five years.
