Laser Flash could relocate from Carmel to Fishers

After more than 12 years in Carmel, Laser Flash could be moving to Fishers.

Owner Peter Murphy said he’s been looking to relocate for several years so he could add more space for other attractions, such as miniature golf.

Murphy leases about 12,000 square feet at the Carmel location, 617 Third Ave. SW. He plans to construct a new 25,000- to 30,000-square-foot structure on the southwest corner of 126th Street and Promise Road near Interstate 69.

He said he scouted existing buildings, but since he needs a large open space with high ceilings, he was usually limited to warehouses that didn’t provide enough parking. At the new location, he hopes to increase available parking spaces from 42 to 150.

The anticipated $5 million project would provide space for laser tag, Cyber Sport, outdoor mini golf, a full-service bar and expanded cafe and arcade.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Cyber Sport (myself included), Murphy described it as a combination of basketball and lacrosse, but in bumper cars. There are two teams with five players each that use plastic scoops to capture a foam ball and get it through the opposing team’s goal. (Check it out here.)

He said mini golf could help increase business during the usually slow summer months because it would provide an outdoor attraction.

The earliest Murphy expects to open is summer or fall of 2016.

He said he thinks the new facility could increase the percentage of adult customers, which is already at about 30 percent.

“We’ve become much more of an adult place,” Murphy said. “Laser tag isn’t just for kids anymore. It’s a lot of fun if it’s done right.”

The Fishers Board of Zoning Appeals is scheduled to discuss the project June 24.
