Developer to spend up to $10M to renovate Westfield multiplex

The owner of Village Park Plaza in Westfield plans to renovate and redevelop the 17-screen movie theater within the complex.

Columbus, Ohio-based Washington Prime Group Inc. expects to spend as much as $10 million to remodel and add a retail component to the Regal Cinemas theater near the northeast corner of Greyhound Pass and 146th Street.

The project includes redesigning 12,000 square feet of space on the south end of the 57,600-square-foot movie theater into space for four retail or restaurant tenants. The interior of the theater would also be renovated.

Once completed, the building, which was constructed in 1993 and expanded in 1999, would be 60,146 square feet. It was not immediately clear whether or how the renovation would impact the configuration of the screens.

Officials with Washington Prime Group did not respond to IBJ’s request for comment. However, the group has submitted plans for the project to the city and briefly outlined it at a Westfield City Council meeting.

The retail tenant spaces would range from 2,600 square feet to 3,490 square feet. Washington Prime Group also plans to add two outlots in an existing parking lot on the southeast corner of Greyhound Pass and 147th Street.

Village Park Plaza includes Walmart, Menards, Bed Bath & Beyond, Hobby Lobby, Kohl’s and Shoe Carnival, to name a few tenants.

Marsh Supermarkets also has a store in the development, but the Fishers-based chain has said that location will close May 21, along with several others in the Indianapolis area.

The theater project still needs to be reviewed by the Westfield Plan Commission and approved by the Westfield City Council, because the developer is requesting a change in the zoning. A meeting with nearby property owners is scheduled for May 24.
