Veepstakes continue as Trump meets with Pence at governor’s residence

National media were camped outside the Indiana governor’s residence along Meridian Street on Wednesday as Donald Trump and some of his family members reportedly met with Mike Pence inside.

Trump spent the night at the Conrad hotel downtown on Tuesday night following a rally in Westfield, at which Pence gave the GOP presidential nominee a rousing introduction. And, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Halperin, the pair had dinner together.

Halperin tweeted Wednesday morning that Trump and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, were inside the governor’s residence for a private meeting and TV stations showed footage of Ivanka going into the home.

Reporters tweeted photos of Trump’s motorcade waiting outside.

Trump was vague about the veepstakes Tuesday at a rally with supporters at Grand Park in Westfield. “I don’t know if he’ll be your governor or your vice-president,” Trump said as he was wrapping up his 50-minute speech. “Who the hell knows?”

Pence had enthusiastically introduced Trump, saying the businessman-turned-politician is someone who “gets it.”

“Donald Trump knows that the boundless potential of the American people awaits, and that we can make America great again,” Pence said during his five minutes on stage.

If Pence is the pick, he must withdraw from the governor’s race—where he is seeking reelection—by Friday. That’s the day Trump is expected to announce his decision.

The Indiana Republican Party would have 30 days to name a replacement to the Indiana ballot.
