Your unemployment rate

Hard times are hitting people differently. A neat feature on the New York Times’ site allows you to change a few
variables—race, gender, age and education level—and see how unemployment rates change.

At one extreme,
the jobless rate is 48.5 percent for 15- to 24-year-old black males lacking a high school education.

At the other
end of the spectrum, white males ages 25 to 44 years and having a college education are enjoying a rate of only 3.9 percent.

Now if only the Times would allow us to refine the search by industry or job category.
