Messer: Palin could ‘win’ Indiana

One of the candidates for U.S. Rep. Dan Burton’s seat, Luke Messer, thinks Sarah Palin stands a reasonably good chance
of carrying Indiana in the next Republican presidential primary—if she runs.

Messer, a former state representative
and lobbyist, is in the minority of Republicans who speak easily about Palin, who reportedly drew 1,000 people in Noblesville
Thursday for a signing of her new book, “Going Rogue.” Most in Messer’s party are leery of Palin due to
her unpredictability or because they’re uncomfortable with the social conservative wing of the party from which she
hails.

Still, if the presidential primary were held today, Messer thinks Palin along with former Arkansas governor
Mike Huckabee and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney would be the front-runners.

Huckabee stirs about as
much interest among Indiana conservatives as Palin, Messer says, which suggests to Messer they would be in a dead heat to
take the state’s delegates.

“Do I believe she would win states?” Messer asked rhetorically. “Yes.
States she could win include Indiana.”

What do you think? How would you handicap Palin’s odds here?
Any thoughts about Palin, herself?
