Big Woods, a restaurant and beer garden that got its start in southern Indiana, is coming to Speedway.
The town’s redevelopment commission announced Thursday morning that construction on the 7,500-square-foot building at the corner of 10th and Main streets should begin in the summer with an opening to follow early next spring.

“As we explored possible locations to expand into the central Indiana market, we were drawn to the iconic nature of the town of Speedway,” Big Woods co-owner Jeff McCabe said in a prepared statement.
Big Woods will offer a full menu, including artisanal pizza and smoked pork chop nachos. It also will offer a large craft-beer selection, including brews from the company’s Quaff On! Brewing Co. in Bloomington.
Big Woods will serve as an anchor to Main Street’s south end. A few blocks to the north, Shelbyville-based Daredevil Brewing Co. is building a 10,000-square-foot production brewery and tap room on a two-acre lot at the southeast corner of West Main and Gilman streets.
Speedway has been working for several years to redevelop its Main Street.
Completion of a $10 million streetscape project and $7 million Dallara chassis facility in 2011 helped jumpstart activity. A year later, Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing opened a $2.7 million, 37,000-square-foot headquarters. And last fall, AJ Foyt Racing reached an agreement to buy and renovate the 45,000-square-foot building at 1180 Main St.
