Swedish-based clothing retailer H&M is slated to open next spring in The Shops at Perry Crossing in Plainfield, the mall’s owner said Thursday. The store will be H&M’s third in the Indianapolis area.

Shops at Perry Crossing landlord, Memphis-based Poag Shopping Centers, said H&M will take 24,000 square feet at the 600,200-square-foot mall near Perry Road and U.S. 40.

The retailer has existing local locations at Circle Centre downtown and Castleton Square Mall, both operated by Simon Property Group Inc. Overall, the international chain has more than 4,000 stores in 62 countries.

“The addition of H&M, one of the largest fashion retailers, solidifies our dedication to improve the shopping and dining experience,” Josh Poag, CEO of Poag Shopping Centers, said in a written statement. “H&M is a premier retail destination with affordable prices that our customers are excited to have close to their backdoor.”

Shops at Perry Crossing, formerly known as Metropolis, is anchored by JC Penney, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Carmike 18 Cinemas.

Poag rebranded the mall last year after it partnered with Blue Vista Capital Management LLC in Chicago to buy the 68-acre outdoor shopping center out of receivership for an undisclosed price in December 2013.

Poag since has completed an $11 million renovation of the property, which included new signage and lighting, as well as repaving parking lots, installing fountains, adding landscaping and painting some buildings.

Metropolis opened in 2005 and was developed by former Indianapolis-based development firm Premier Properties USA Inc. It is the 13th-largest shopping center in the metropolitan area, based on its square footage.
