Indiana bill would limit use of drone surveillance

An Indiana House committee is considering a bill that would limit police use of drones and electronic surveillance equipment.

The bill introduced by Republican Rep. Eric Koch of Bedford would strictly regulate police use of unmanned aircraft and prohibit their use to conduct surveillance without a court warrant.

The drone bill is scheduled to be heard Monday morning by the House Committee on Courts and Criminal Procedure.

Koch's bill also would regulate the placement of cameras or other electronic surveillance equipment on private property.

Ohio and Indiana announced plans this month to operate their own test ranges for unmanned aircraft to attract drone-related businesses. The two states had earlier lost in their joint bid to land a Federal Aviation Administration test site.

  • Drone surveillance
Wasn't Indiana and Ohio just pushing a month ago to be a drone testing site for the government. I agree that I don't want drone surveillance. Our rights and freedoms are slowly being erased one by one.

While gay marriage and abortion articles are filled with readers' comments, there's nothing here. Is the American public really so "dumbed-down" and easily swayed by shiny object issues that it no longer cares whether a malevolent police state can conduct surveillance on us without warrant? It's like witnessing sheep (outraged over silly social issues) being led to the slaughterhouse. The American people need to wake up and stop being easily divided over social issues. A divided nation will fall.
