Subscribe NowCity officials in Indianapolis and Beech Grove have reached a settlement in a long-standing feud related to Beech Grove’s exit from the Marion County Stormwater District in 2006 and to sewer and storm-water billing disagreements dating to 2000.
The settlement was approved by the city of Indianapolis on Monday and by the Beech Grove Board of Public Works on Wednesday.
A "memorandum of understanding" calls for a final settlement payment by Beech Grove of $218,401 and the payment of a pro-rated share of future capital expenditures that directly benefit the citizens of Beech Grove. The city of Indianapolis said the bills had totaled nearly $1 million.
“With Mayor Ballard's help, we have reached an amicable solution to issues predating both of our administrations,” Beech Grove Mayor Terry Dilk said in a prepared statement. “Mayor Ballard and his team were willing to be problem solvers and proactively and fairly address issues between our two great cities, which the prior Indianapolis administration was not willing to do.”
The resolution of all issues relating to past sewer and storm-water matters were finalized before Indianapolis officially transferred, on Friday morning, the city's water and wastewater utilities to Citizens Energy Group, a public charitable trust operating as a not-for-profit.The $1.9 billion sale was approved by regulators in July.
