Local IT consultancy plans to add 200 jobs

An Indianapolis-based information technology consultancy plans to lease additional office space on the city’s north-east side to make way for a planned addition of 200 workers by 2015.

City and economic development officials announced Knowledge Services’ plans Thursday morning in a press conference at the company’s headquarters, 5875 Castle Creek Parkway.

Knowledge Services was founded in 1994 as an information technology training company and has grown into a $57 million operation with 600 employees, including 150 in Indianapolis.

While the company continues to provide IT consulting, Knowledge Services CEO Julie Bielawski said major growth has taken place in the last four to five years as the company expanded into managing the process of temporary hiring for companies.

Knowledge Services was featured as one of IBJ’s fastest-growing companies last month. Annual revenue at the firm grew from $18.5 million in 2008 to $57.4 million in 2010.

Bielawski said the tough economy has created demand for contingent labor that has helped drive her company’s growth in that area.

“We’re in a really tough economy at the moment, and clients are looking for ways to continue to get their initiatives completed and get their rollouts done in a timely fashion within their budget,” Bielawski said.

The company’s new employees–including software developers and staffers in accounting, business development and customer service–will mostly help serve that growing area, Bielawski said. The company already has begun hiring some of the 200 workers. It said it will spend about $1.9 million to lease and prepare the new office space.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Knowledge Services $2.7 million in tax credits and $25,000 in training grants. The company also is seeking a 10-year tax abatement.

  • Really?
I think they should take some of that money and send their current staff back to get training in people management and customer service. How can one person email Andrea C. at Knowledge Services and not hear back from her for 3 weeks when we have questions about our invoice they haven't paid or provided info to us on. The staff just hides behind dotStaff portal and tell us to go there.

Their handling of the States' MSP process is horrible. Sounds like I want to apply for these cush lazy jobs.
  • Are you kidding me?
So let me get this straight...
Knowledge Services, who already holds the managed service provider contract with the State of Indiana for supplying personnel, is now going to get a tax abatement to hire the personnel our tax dollars are already paying for in their entirety, plus profit????

I'm curious, the article left out details regarding how many monkeys and how many typewriters it took to hammer out this deal...

    EPIC...FAIL...
  • 200 jobs?
200 jobs to their payroll or filling 200 more temp positions than what they currently have?
  • Thank you
We want to thank the IBJ, a favorite in our office, for taking the time to recognize our efforts in coordination with the City of Indianapolis and State of Indiana.

  1. RKW's comments read like a modern "Chicken Little". As a Raintree resident for many years, "Yes, I'm ready for this." Matter of fact, I welcome The Farm because it's a development that compliments our town, brings new and desirable shopping & dining closer (specialty grocer, upscale shops, micro brew pub, etc), offers upscale condos for empty nesters who want to stay in Zionsville, is being planned and constructed by local, well-reputed firms and, of course, provides desirable non property tax benefits. We all knew the Pittman's were going to develop their property sooner than later. That one of the Pittman's will continue to live on the property helps assure The Farm will be everything promised. This also sets a standard for other developers as to the quality of future developments - which should keep an ugly Walmart at bay for decades. As we've no meglomaniac mayor, I seriously doubt Zionsville would ever aspire to over-priced statues or subsidized retail rents. And we already have a very nice public theater, the Zionsville Performing Arts Center, that meets our cultural needs quite nicely.

  2. Do we add (or subtract) these from the bounty we recieve from RTWFL, Daylight Savings Time, corporate tax giveaways, and the crack job IEDC is doing?? Or is Mike going to blame these on Mitch?

  3. Who makes Tater Tots? They would be a good sponsor, because $3 Million for the alleged "Greatest Spectacle In Racing" is taters. Tiny, tiny taters. But at least they are making up something of the losses accumulated over the years in this dying sport. Buttock in seat is certainly not doing it, nor eyeball on TV, as evidenced by the lack of both.

  4. We loved lakehouse and think the Arbor Village would be a great location. It is less than 2 miles from over 1000 rooftops in the 225,000 to over 1 million range. Many people could use the great fishers trail system to bike or walk there. Just an idea Scotty -- but maybe something closer to 3 Wiseman would good. The only microbrew in area is Ram (boring)

  5. True, it's an ESPN production, but ESPN is just another name for ABC Sports, or what used to be ABC Sports since ABC Sports no longer exists as a name. ESPN=ABC Sports= ESPN. ESPN is, according to Forbes "the world's most valuable media property" worth $40 billion. Despite that, they fired 400 people this week.
