Homebuilders filed 459 single-family building permits in the nine-county metro area in March, the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis said Tuesday. That’s up 6 percent from the 435 that were filed in March 2013. It’s also a 21-percent rise from the previous month.
Year-over-year permit filings had risen 4 percent in February after falling 1 percent in January.
Hamilton County led the area with 172 permits filed in March, up 10 percent from the same month of 2013. Marion County saw 75 permit filings, up 10 percent.
Johnson County saw a 15-percent increase, with 62 filings. Permits were up 67 percent in Hancock County, to 30.
Filings were down 4 percent in Hendricks County, to 67, and down 33 percent in Boone, to 31.
Shelby County saw its first filings since November, with six.
On a year-over-year basis, permit filings in the area have now risen in 12 of the last 15 months.
Through the first three months of the year, 1,138 permits have been filed in central Indiana, an increase of 3 percent over the same period of 2013.
